Introduction
Mandatory Question
What is the issue and why did you choose your fire project issue?
My issue is the negative impacts of beauty pageants and I chose this Fire Project issue because it is a topic that can highly damage the childhood of many young girls. I chose this issue because I believe many girls shouldn’t have to experience the harm that come along with beauty pageants especially at a young age. Beauty should never be determined by a competition, the pressure to be perfect carries on in the future of these contestants and creates a mentality that is only focusing on the outside. Nevertheless, I strongly believe that my audience should be informed about the inner conflicts that these girls face and how something that is seen to “lift” self esteem is something that destroys it instead.
Why does your issue matter/Why is this issue so important?
The issue of harmful outcomes from beauty pageants matters because we are dehumanizing young girls at a very young age through “princess syndrome” This term is extremely essential in my project because it is based upon the unrealistic expectations such as being “perfect” that many young girls from ages three and above face in their daily lives due to being participants of beauty pageants. Furthermore, my issue matters because in the U.S there are many toddler pageants that still go on and even reality shows such as “Toddlers and Tiaras” demonstrate all the pressure these children go through just to meet extravagant expectations. Child beauty pageants destruct the childhood of young girls and create unhealthy habits in their lives which is why my issue is so important to study and be informed about. Through my research I desire to inform my community with evidence on why they should oppose beauty pageants and the destroying results of participating in pageant organizations.
